WE ANSWER 15 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT CONTRACEPTIVE METHODS

1.- Do contraceptive methods cause weight gain?

When using hormonal methods, the appearance of increased muscle mass is not a secondary reaction that occurs in the majority of the female population; if so, it will depend on the release of hormones and external factors (lifestyle, diet, among others) where this reaction in the body will be determined for at least three or four months.

2.- Will contraceptive methods cause acne?

In some hormonal methods, acne may appear as a secondary reaction, although this will depend on each organism.

3.- Will I be able to get pregnant later if I use a contraceptive method?

By going to a doctor to withdraw or stop taking a medium-term method, the patient is exposed to pregnancy in 15 days or a month, since no method affects the fertility and/or ovulation of the body.

4.- What changes in the menstrual period do contraceptive methods cause?

In the case of hormonal methods, the main changes in menstruation are: less cramping, less bleeding, spotting or bleeding between periods and, in some cases, the absence of menstruation. On the other hand, with non-hormonal methods, patients may experience: greater cramping and increased bleeding due to the inflammation caused by copper in the endometrium.

5.- What is the most suitable contraceptive method for me?

It is suggested that you go to a clinic where a professional must perform a medical history to know your hereditary family history and in turn medical conditions that may be counterproductive to your health to use a contraceptive method.

6.- Can you feel the IUD during sexual intercourse?

When the patient resumes her active sexual life, intrauterine methods are not felt as much by the patient as by the partner, so it is important and essential to make the visits and/or medical check-ups suggested by the specialist (one month after placement, 6 months later and from then on, along with the Pap smear, which is every year). In order to corroborate a good placement and location of the IUD, ruling out any risk.

7.- What is the most effective contraceptive method?

All long-term and medium-term methods can be effective as long as our partner takes responsibility for check-ups, taking or placing methods together with a condom so that together we can eradicate exposure to pregnancy and transmission of STIs, since no method prevents contracting a disease and there is no 100% effectiveness when using them.

8.- If I have an OTB or salpingectomy, can I reverse the procedure to get pregnant later?

It is not possible, let us remember that these methods are definitive and that at the time of performing a surgical intervention there is a zero probability of reversing the cutting or ligation of the same tubes.

9.- How many times can I take the morning after pill?

Emergency pills can be taken twice a year due to hormonal imbalance, effectiveness and endometrial changes.

10.- Can I change the timing of my birth control pills without affecting their effectiveness?

Yes, you can change the time you take the pills without forgetting or skipping a day. It is only recommended to use an additional condom for 7 consecutive sexual relations until hormonal balance is achieved.

11.- What mood changes do contraceptive methods cause?

When using contraceptives, it is not possible to determine the degree or severity of changes in a fluctuating temperament due to the release of hormones.

12.- How long will it take me to have sexual relations after using a contraceptive?

You are advised to continue with your active sexual life after 24 to 72 hours; also, use a condom until your next menstruation to confirm the functionality and adaptation of the method.

13.- Can I combine contraceptive methods for greater effectiveness?

It is only possible to use a combination of the barrier method (condom) and long- or medium-term methods.

14.- What should I do if I forget to take the contraceptive pill?

The next day, take the pill and use a barrier method (condom) for 7 consecutive sexual relations until hormonal balance is achieved.

15.- Where can I get contraceptive methods?
